Employ a competent person to examine and test the emergency lighting installation. Replace all discoloured or damaged lens/diffusers, and other defective components. If the luminaires are of an old design that cannot be repaired, replace with equivalent bulkhead luminaires capable of 100 lumen output, with polycarbonate fresnel lens or opal diffusers. The emergency lighting installation should illuminate each exit door, escape route landings and staircases, changes in floor level, firefighting equipment and call points, by by providing sufficient overall level of light to allow them to be visible and usable. The luminaires to be subject to a function and discharge test. The competent person to issue a Commissioning Certificate in accordance with British Standards on completion.
